Ludo Van Muysen
After completing a nursing diploma and 6 months practise in Belgium, I left with my backpack to explore Scotland.
I discovered Balnakeil early in my travels, but moved on to do various jobs around Scotland. From 1988-1991 I studied woodwind instrument repair at Stevenson College, Edinburgh.
I moved up to Balnakeil to set up my business 'Woodwind Workshop' and I now do a lot of repair work for the highland region.
I taught myself woodturning....I really enjoy doing large pieces, allowing the natural irregularities in the wood to become features. I turn local and regional woods, and prefer a solid chunky look rather than an over finished effect.
I turn mainly large sculptural bowls, candlesticks, salad bowls and salt bowls. New work will be added to this gallery when it becomes available.
